ParticipantDear Sir or Madam,
First of all I really appreciate your application. It is a respectable effort to keep things smooth for large amounts of files and judging from the Map view, your application is already capable of handling metadata off Samba shares.
I was about to hit the purchase button when I noticed that these files do not appear within the general Tags, Ratings or Favorites views. Neither is it possible to search for these or the title field in Cloud Folder view. This applies to files whose metadata has been edited both with F-Stop as well as externally.
In the absence of SAF support, the internal Cloud functionality represents the sole option to go beyond the device’s storage limits. Considering that plain file synchronisation, at least with currently available tools, by no means provides a sufficient alternative, I’d really prefer to simply using indexed Samba shares within your application’s pro version over writing my own sync.
With kind regards and many thanks in advance,
Vic

ParticipantAfter further evaluation, I found out that if the same images are tagged from within the All Media view, their metadata is immediately reflected within Tags and other views. 😄
I’m used to check against the source in such situations so digging into the topic as an outsider, it is not unlikely that this behavior arises from measures to keep things smooth even if servers are unreliable and is therefore intended.
In that case the embedded metadata within my test folder has not been fully pulled – does this only happen if preview images are generated? If so, how can this be triggered for a whole folder (hierarchy)? Is it recommended to outsource metadata into xmp sidecars so that they are all synchronised in the background?
If the metadata synchronises, your application would be a true paragon on the android platform – please confirm so I can purchase 👍

ParticipantFalse alert the images within the All Media tab were duplicates of server items.

ModeratorCloud support in F-Stop in rather limited (compared to local images).
Currently cloud images are not being added to All Media, Tags, …. They are only available to be browsed inside “Cloud services” section. So, while you can tag/rate images from NAS/Samba, for other cloud providers this is not possible and will not sync. We do read metadata when we generate previews, but that’s about it. And you can not really force to read metadata fro whole folder, this normally happens when you open the folder. But, it will not read subfolders, only current folder. We are aware of all these limitations, and do plan to improve it, but currently cloud support is not our top priority. Our todo list is almost endless.
