this is essentially a more succinctly worded and more detailed version of a few earlier forum posts i’d made in 2022.
i’ve noticed that sometimes, images within f-stop will completely lose any tags saved to the file. this appears to occur after any kind of reread of the image file is necessary, either because of the file in question being moved, copied or otherwise.
Example: 50 images are in the downloads folder of my phone’s internal storage, all of them with tags saved to metadata. the files are then deleted with file explorer on my windows machine and then completely identical copies of those files are placed in the phone’s downloads folder again. after a brief rescan, f-stop shows the 50 images again but with the tagging information completely omitted from a small, seemingly random selection of those images.
However, inspecting any one of those seemingly random images on my windows machine, it turns out that the tags are very much still present within the file, f-stop has just chosen to not see them anymore after this rescan. again, the tags were written to the file with the “save metadata” option within f-stop prior to them being copied\moved\etc.
additionally, using “revert to metadata on disk” does not restore the vanished tagging information.
this appears to occur no matter whether the images are copied\moved using f-stop or any external file manager.
