Hello! I’m having trouble saving tags to file metadata. While jpg files work just fine, I can only save tags to other filetypes (such as png or mp4) if I enable sidecars. But I don’t want to enable sidecars.
If I try to tag a file that isn’t a jpeg while sidcars are disabled, I can apply the tags through f-stop, but the files will be in the “update metadata” section (even if I have autosave enabled). If I click the update metadata button, it says “Finished saving metadata”, but the file is still in the “update metadata section” (and it’s metadata isn’t updated – I checked by transferring it back into my PC).
It seems that in the past, f-stop has only been able to work with tagging jpg files – but the ability to tag non-jpg files was added in version 2, but I am on version 5.3.2 pro.
Ideally, I would be able to add tags to all filetypes without enabling sidecars (after all, the option is there). Unfortunately, the file gets stuck at “updating metadata”, claims the metadata has finished updating, but no metadata is updated at all.

F-Stop has always written tags into files only for JPG files. For all others F-Stop writes it into sidecar files. However we plan to add more files to the list of formats for which we will embed tags. However, videos are not planned, since sometimes you can not just change couple of bytes of video, but need to rewrite whole video (which can be several GB in size). Also, due to how Android works with SD cards, sometimes we would need to even copy it twice.
