ParticipantWould be nice to have a way to backup settings (for instance, smart albums). I’ve had the misfortune to have had three different phones in the last three months, I lose my settings every time… Would be great if they could be backed up to an external SD…

ParticipantI’d endorse that…..it’s frustrating to lose all your albums.
With nearly 2000 photos, I don’t want to have to create the albums again and put the photos in manually if a backup method can be provided…..please?

ParticipantAnother endorsement here – though perhaps my particular issue should be reported as a bug, too…

ParticipantI think you could use tags and then create albums based on the tags. As long as you save your meta data to disk it will embed the tag in the photos and they should be there forever . it uses standard tags so they are recognized in programs that use them on a PC I’ve personally used Windows Live Photo Viewer and the tags are compatible. the only issue at the moment is if your photos are on an SD card f stop hasn’t yet released the Fix for SD card write access provided with the new lollipop operating system (at least on the htc one m8). It sounds like it’s right around the corner though.

ParticipantI just noticed that writing tags is only available on the paid version. I as of when I started using this app a year or two ago there was no other app that could write standard tags to photos. Regardless if that is still the case, purchasing this app is a no brainer in my opinion for that functionality alone. Also, to convert your current albums to tags you should be able to go into each album, then select all photos, then press the tag button and choose or create a tag.

ParticipantJust switched phones again, same issue… It’s getting a bit irritating to have to rebuild my smart albums every time I change phones, is there really not some way to get it to export some kind of settings file so when I change phones I can simply restore that file and have F-stop back in action the way it was immediately?
Seems like kind of a trivial thing – I assume F-stop knows where it stores it’s settings… I did some poking around in the filesystem to see if I could find at least some files that might have the smart album settings saved, figured I’d do some kind of brute force attempt by just copying those files into the same locations on the new phone (hey, if it blows up it’s easy to restore right now…) but I couldn’t find them – but then I’m not an Android/Linux guru….
Anyone?

ParticipantJust to update this in case anyone stumbles across it…
I just changed phones again, was now faced with (once again) rebuilding all my “smart albums” on the new phone and tripped over a entry in the forum that referred to a backup/restore process in the Albums menu.
Sure enough, if you open up Albums and then open the menu (upper right corner in current version), there is now an option to backup and restore albums!
Great – I simply backed them up on the old phone, transferred the backup file to the new phone, restored them on the new phone.
Worked great, all my smart albums were back in place within a minute or two!
